FAQs

Q : Is our current grouped arrangement really such an anomaly?

A : Yes - it really is.  Apart from the fact that our council is five times larger than the average, the anomaly is readily apparent from the diagram to the left, which is taken from Surrey Heath's own web site. Whilst the imbalance o representation has now been addressed (Windlesham now has five Councillors and Bagshot six), this 'grouping' is still an anomaly. The diagram clearly shows how the villages of Chobham, West End and Bisley are represented individually - compared to the seemingly illogical grouping of Windlesham, Bagshot and Lightwater.

Q : Will costs increase?

A : The proposal that has been accepted by the Borough Council will allow our three villages to share costs of offices and staff and also to benefit from economies of scale where they exist. Importantly, the proposed model also allows each village to contract separately for services where a better deal is available.

Q : Will there still be money for Community Grants?

A : Yes. The proposed new model places full responsibility for grants within each village to the councillor grouping of that village

Q : What does a Parish Council do?

A : The main responsibilities of a Parish Council  are to :

  • Represent the local community to Borough and County councils
  • Deliver / maintain local services such as allotments, bridleways, burial grounds, memorials, bus shelters etc, and
  • Improve the quality of life and community well being of residents
