More than 700 people signed the petition that led to this review - and over 2,000 people  have already visited the One Windlesham web site to learn more about our campaign to improve the way in which our Parish Council can act effectively and for the whole of the village of Windlesham.

Of the 507 letters received from Windlesham, 481 people wrote in support of a totally independent Parish Council for Windlesham, although many expressed concerns that this improved autonomy and localism should be achieved without the creation of additional costs and overheads.

The Borough Council formed a working party to include representatives from the various residents' groups council officers and all affected Parish and Borough councillors.

This group was tasked with finding a workable solution that:

  • 're-unites' the whole of Windlesham village so that the area around Snows Ride is electorally re-connected to the rest of Windlesham
  • improves local representation with councillors focussed on the needs of Windlesham
  • retains collaboration and synergies with our neighbours in Bagshot & Lightwater - so avoiding increased costs for residents

This group quickly identified some ideas and proposals that are not only good for Windlesham, but they are also good for Bagshot and Lightwater.

The proposals from this working party were debated at the Surrey Heath Borough Council meeting on 22nd July 2020. The Council voted to support the proposals and to continue down the path towards their implementation.

You can read more about the proposed way forward in the 'Proposed New Model' section
